Start Early...
It is never too
early to begin the process of registering for college. Schedule an
appointment to speak with a college advisor/counselor now What Does... the diploma say? Crossroads' diploma resembles those awarded by other private and public schools. The diploma does not state homeschool or correspondence program. It does state the the student graduated from Crossroads Christian School.
Our diplomas are sent to the student in a padded, leatherette diploma cover, which is similar to those awarded by schools across the country.

ALL 2007/2008 SENIORS
Congratulations for all the hard work that you have put forth to come to this point in your life. Take a moment to thank your parents for the time, effort, expense, and, most of all, love that they have invested in your education. There are a few issues that need to be addressed before and after graduation.
Note: All Seniors should receive a Curriculum Verification Letter (CVL) from Crossroads upon 12th grade enrollment*.
A CVL is a form which states that CCS has reviewed your student's 12th grade Curriculum List. It indicates whether or not the student is eligible to graduate from CCS at the end of their senior year based on the provided Curriculum List. It states any problems/concerns that our staff may have with the curriculum and offers suggestions on how to remedy them.
Ultimately, it is the parent's responsibility to be aware of CCS graduation requirements and the credits that are necessary for their student's graduation. Many of our parent's have indicated that they believe their student's senior curriculum will satisfy CCS graduation requirements, but they would like to have an indication from our staff just to be certain. The CVL is a result of those requests.
We love all of our students; however, we have a very special place in our hearts for our "babies" who are going out into the world to represent the CCS family. We want to be certain that this transition is as smooth as possible.
*If SR enrollment is received without a curriculum list, we will forward a Request for Sr Curriculum form along with your welcome letter and ID cards. This form is used as a reminder to our parents that CCS needs the SR curriculum as soon as possible. More importantly, it is a reminder to our Records staff that when the form is returned with sr curriculum, a CVL (Curriculum Verification Letter) needs to be processed immediately.
Crossroads Christian School (CCS) needs to have a copy of any and all high school ACT/SAT results. If registering for the test, use our code number (also called a CEEB) of 100326. It is necessary for us to have this information to complete any college or scholarship documents. For current registration dates visit the testing websites for more information: SAT or ACT.
Our school colors are navy blue and gold. We do not have a mascot, officially. Many families enjoy choosing a mascot for their own use. On our class rings, the mascot is the Cross.
Class rings may be purchased through Wal-Mart either at the store or on the website at Walmart.Com. The school is Crossroads Christian School in Okaloosa County, Florida. Some have stated that the ring is also available through Sam's Club stores.
Crossroads Christian School provides seniors with a class tassel, which is navy blue and gold with a gold date drop attached. The padded diploma cover is navy blue as well. Caps, gowns, and invitations may be obtained from various sources. We recommend not spending a fortune on invitations if at all possible. Shop around for the best prices. Graduation time should be enjoyable and not be a financial burden.
Milligan's in Alabama does have reasonable prices on caps and gowns. They also offer invitation services. You may visit their website at http://www.milligans.com. We are not affiliated with this company; however, we have used their services and found the experience to be satisfactory.
As much as we would like to host a graduation ceremony it is not possible. Crossroads Christian School has students in all fifty states and thirteen countries overseas. We feel that it would be extremely difficult to organize an event that would benefit all our families without being a burden to them or our staff. To be honest, it would not be as special as an event in which families and friends were able to attend.
Graduation is a time for celebration. It should not be a time of formality for the sake of formality. We encourage families to put together their own events whether at church or with their local support group. An event such as that would be special and would make wonderful memories.
If a family prefers a more formal and elaborate graduation, we encourage families to attend the ceremony given by state support group. In Florida, the FPEA (state support group) hosts a beautiful ceremony during Memorial Day weekend at the end of May. More information may be obtained through their website at http://www.fpea.com.
In order to guarantee delivery by the graduation date, we must know at least eight weeks in advance. We do not Express or Overnight diplomas. To request a diploma, use the Diploma Request Form located that the bottom of our Forms page (see link on menu to the left).
SPECIAL NOTE: CCS cannot certify a final transcript before the student's graduation date, even if all graduation requirements are met. Please keep this in mind when determining your SR's graduation date.
Every year several graduating seniors wait until the last possible minute to request their high school transcript for college admission. This is a great inconvenience to our staff and families. Since we must accommodate these last minute requests, those who submitted enrollment packages, reports, etc. must wait. This year we will not do that. If the senior plans to attend a college, register early and put in the request early. We will not process requests on a two-day notice. It is not our responsibility to "bail out" those who procrastinate. We will do our best, as we always have, but we will not penalize those who acted responsibly. They will come first.
We strongly recommend that seniors choose a college prior to graduation. Speak to the college counselor and know the dates of registration and when the transcript is needed. Request the transcript as soon as initial registration papers are filed (many colleges allow you to register prior to choosing classes). Last minute requests will be fulfilled only as time allows. It will be done on a first come basis even if this means the student cannot reserve a class desired. Be responsible.
The student's Social Security Number must be on file before transcripts are sent to any college. Most colleges will not process transcripts without SSNs. Because of this fact, Crossroads must send additional copies causing expense, lost of time, and unnecessary delays. Having a SSN on file is a requirement of the school. Without it, we will be unable to submit transcripts to colleges or scholarship programs.
Crossroads Christian School will process up to four transcripts at no charge. After the initial four, the cost will be $5.00 per transcript, paid in advance.
Early transcript requests, which are requests made prior to graduation, will be processed if CCS has on file the students first semester grades. We cannot send a transcript to a college without first semester grades.
NOTE: Scholarship Transcripts can be requested prior to 1st semester reporting, as these only contain pre-12th grade credits; however, these do count toward the maximum of four no charge transcripts.
Prior to submitting a final transcript to a college, the student must report all grades to CCS and meet all graduation requirements. Any outstanding debt must also be paid.
College financial aid offices are the best source of information when it comes to scholarships. They are aware of all internal and local scholarships available. Be sure to schedule an appointment to speak with a financial aid officer as early as possible.
Parents are welcome to express their interest in scholarships that require school nomination. However, with such scholarships, the school may only nominate one student. This is based on many factors, and a student will be nominated whether the parent expressed interest or not.
Some parents receive seminar invitations and printed material from private individuals or businesses offering to help with scholarships for a fee. Do not pay for scholarship information. These type of businesses have been exposed many times through the media as being a scam. We recommend that you speak with local businesses, business associations, and employers in regards to possible scholarship opportunities.
NOTE: Scholarship Transcripts can be requested prior to 1st semester reporting, as these only contain pre-12th grade credits; however, these do count toward the maximum of four no charge transcripts.
Florida 2007/2008 Seniors Only
Florida seniors who are interested in the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship program need to be aware of the requirements for qualification. To read more about the requirements, visit http://www.myfloridaeducation.com/brfuture.
Bright Futures Candidates (those who have or will meet the minimum requirements) must complete the Florida Financial Aid Application prior to graduation. This form is brief and should only take a few minutes to complete. Be sure to indicate that your child is a private school student. The county in which the school is located is Okaloosa. The form will ask for the student's GPA. This need not be exact as they want to know what the parent believes it is. CCS will report the exact GPA. Without this form being completed, Crossroads cannot submit any information to Bright Futures. This is the only document that the parent needs to complete. No other forms are required.
***The last possible date to complete this form is August 31, 2008. As of September 1, 2008, no applications will be accepted and students will forfeit all opportunity to receive the scholarship. Keep in mind that even though the last day is August 31, 2008, Bright Futures still requires students have this form completed before their graduation date. No exceptions.***
Once the above form is completed and submitted online, Crossroads may then begin to input early data to the Bright Futures system. This is done periodically. The transcript submission may begin as early as the end of January and last until mid-July.
Bright Futures may send some families an award letter prior to graduation, and they may not. The money, if the requirements have been met, will be available for registration in July/August. Simply inform the college registrar that the student has qualified for Bright Futures. The registrar will confirm that information with Bright Futures directly.
In summary, the parent should:
Be aware of the requirements of the Bright Futures Scholarship. Complete the Florida Financial Aid Application online. Know all upcoming SAT/ACT test dates. Report all final grades in a timely manner. |
